Dan continues to offer a wonderful way to keep exercising during the pandemic. He is consistent in his approach to the exercise experience. He offers a variety of exercise patterns so as not to bore the client. He has a sensitivity to the client’s needs, and an awareness of time so as not to shortchange you. He keeps a record of your growth or strengthening. His humor and stories keep you comfortable while you cool down at the end of your session. He has a positivity that helps reinforce the importance of exercise.

I strongly recommend Dan Hysong as a trainer. I initially did my personal training with Dan at a gym. When the gym shut down, I started working with him online. This has worked out very well. At first, I was a bit leery because I don’t have the kind of machines at home that we had at the gym. Fortunately, Dan was able to do a good job of building effective workouts using the equipment (mainly dumbbells and an inflatable ball) I have on hand. Dan is a very conscientious trainer. He keeps notes of my progress and pays attention to timing the routines in my workouts.
I’m getting older, and Dan has done a lot to help me with balance and maintaining muscle strength. You might think I could do that myself, but I find that it is really helpful to have a trainer like Dan who has an excellent sense of how much to push me. He pushes me harder than I’d push myself, and I wind up glad that he did. In addition, Dan has helped me work through a number of special issues ranging from pulled muscles and plantar fasciitis to recovery from abdominal surgery. I’m always amazed when I describe some ache or pain and he sets up a stretch to relieve it. There is no question that this has improved my quality of life.

After severe hip and shoulder injury I was skeptical if Dan’s Virtual Therapy would assist me in gaining my independence. Nine months of his virtual exercise program, that was consistent and adaptable to my physical needs, I am able to independently take care of most of my personal needs and some household chores. To much delight, I was extremely pleased I could stand and cook an entire meal and clean up afterwards. The virtual experience allowed me the convenience of being at home and to use the exercise equipment for additional practice. Not only did he meet my physical needs but was cooperative in adapting to my schedule. I am quite startled at the number of daily tasks I can complete independently. Dan is positive, patient, and persistent. I highly recommend his program.

I’ve worked with Dan for almost three years, two at Fitness Works before it closed due to COVID and the past year on Zoom. My cardiologist recommended resistance training as one part of my recovery from congestive heart failure, and gym colleagues recommended Dan. He’s very knowledgeable and has designed and adjusted, as necessary, a program that is challenging but based on my abilities. Exercises vary; they work the whole body. He gives good direction and feedback. Minimal equipment is required (I started with a ball, set of stretch bands, and pair of weights). I’m happy with my progress (and his sense of humor) and highly recommend him.

Dan has been my trainer for around six months, all of this time on Zoom. Dan is very adept at tailoring the workout to the online environment, working with the equipment I have at home. Dan addresses my exercise goals, which due to joint surgery, have changed over the time he’s been my trainer. As we work on different muscle groups, he makes sure that all the related muscles are properly exercised. I’m impressed with his knowledge of anatomy and of training exercises. He is considerate of my limitations. While always challenging me to improve my abilities, he recognizes that pain is a reason to modify an exercise or to stop doing an exercise. I appreciate that Dan does the exercises with me. This is a good way for me to observe the proper form. With Dan I feel that I am getting a personalized workout. Dan takes notes with every exercise and refers to the notes from the previous session in designing the current one. Finally, Dan is generous with his time. He will make certain that the suite of exercises for the day is completed even if it means that the session will be longer than the allotted time.

I’ve been working out with Dan on zoom since our gym closed. His knowledge, expertise, and patience has helped me improve my balance and stamina in the comfort of my own home.
